@ National Trail: It was a long bus ride up to Trails to play our season opener. I believe the bus ride up was faster then our speed of play. It was just sort of yuckie. The ball was in their end of the field 70 of the 80 minutes. I think this led to a lot of standing around. Their grass was very thick which led to a heavy ball at the feet. Because of our possession their numbers were all in the box. Our shots (33 of them) were everywhere but in the net. This game certainly required more movement and more flare in the final third. They had 1 shot which rolled right passed the post. So it ended up merely 1-0, But a win is a win is a win. So hopefully we finish a few more in the games to come.
vs. Xenia Christian: Playing our first home game of the season was exciting for everyone. We started fast with a goal by Ande Allison but then some sloppy play in the back led to their goal and a 1-1 tie early in the match. Kayla Shackelford scored for us off an assist from Christa Harris and we were back in front to stay 2-1. Which is where it ended at the half. We started to really control the game at the start of the 2nd half and actually started to wear them down. In the last 20 minutes we scored 4 times to coast to a 6-1 win. Scoring the other goals for us were K Shack (her 2nd) Madison Patrick, Christa Harris and Lexi Brown. Assisting (which is super important) for us was Harris, K Shack, Sierra Rose and Allison. This was a much better game vs. a better opponent then we played in our opener. Dee Hatton had a nice game in goal followed by Amanda Duffy.
@ Twin Valley South: Back on the road, we traveled to South to take on a team that we tied last year. The first 10 minutes or so we were a little sloppy but after that we were pretty much in charge. We scored 5 times in the first half to pretty much put the game on ice. The only negative the second half is that we seemed to let up, which we sometimes do, only scoring 1 more time. Our defense of Hatton (and Duffy) in the goal, Clark, Rose, Svarda, Hatton and Frazier played well in the back. Possession was good, passing was good and our finishing was pretty good.
Vs. Waynesville: Sort of a little heartbreaker here. We played a really good 65 minutes but as the saying goes "it's an 80 minute game" With 20 minutes to go we were still clinging to our 1-0 lead that we had the first half. They scored to tie the game at 1's but we scored within seconds to go back on top 2-1. With about 14 minutes to play they tied the game at 2's. Then in the next 6 minutes they scored 3 times to beat us 5-2. We made some mistakes that 6 minute span which certainly didn't help. Certainly the score isn't an indication of the type of game that it was. Scoring was Ande Allison and Kayla Shackelford with an assist from Madison Patrick.
